The Sherwood Indooroopilly
RSL / Schools ANZAC
Centenary Project 2014 - 2018
The Sherwood Indooroopilly RSL / Schools ANZAC Centenary Project runs from 2014 to 2018 and has two main objectives:
To record a personal history for each of the 96 men and women of this part of Brisbane who fell in the First World War and whose names are recorded on the three local WW1 Memorials.
To involve as many students as possible from our 18 local schools in researching the histories and circumstances of the fallen 96.
Between them the 10 schools south of the river will research the Graceville Memorial (52 names) and the Oxley Memorial (15 names). Between them the 8 schools north of the river will research the Indooroopilly Memorial (29 names). Federal government funding has been obtained though the Member for Moreton, south of the river, and the Member for Ryan, north of the river, so schools and students can be reimbursed or at least subsidised for out-of-pocket expenses.
At the end of the project, in 2018/19, the stories as written by the students will be published in multiple formats including, it is intended, hard copy book/s, ebook/s and on web sites.
As at the end of 2014, as the first of the stories accumulate, they are being progressively put up on the RSL’s website at: http://www.sherwdipillyrsl.org.au and this will continue into the future.
